Nichrome wire mesh is a woven fabric made from an alloy of Nickel and Chromium. While Hastelloy material is the king of chemical corrosion resistance, Nichrome material is the king of high-temperature oxidation resistance and electrical resistance. Which is primarily used as a heating element, a resistor, or for thermal processing in air environments because it forms a protective layer of chromium oxide when heated, which prevents it from burning up.

Key Properties Of Nichrome Wire Mesh
Outstanding Oxidation Resistance: Nichrome does not rust or scale easily at high temperatures. It forms a stable, adherent oxide layer that protects the underlying metal.
High Electrical Resistivity: It resists the flow of electricity, which causes it to generate heat efficiently (Joule heating).
Good Hot Strength: It maintains its shape and structural integrity at elevated temperatures without significant sagging or creep.
Non-Magnetic: Most Nichrome grades are non-magnetic, which is useful in certain electronic and industrial applications.
Common Applications of Nichrome Wire Mesh
Because Nichrome is designed to get hot and stay hot without degrading, its applications differ significantly from Hastelloy:
Heat Treating Industry: Used as trays, baskets, and fixtures in furnaces to hold parts while they are being heated to 1000°C+.
Heating Elements: Woven into mesh for industrial ovens, dryers, and duct heaters to distribute heat evenly across an airflow.
Flame Arrestors: Used in safety devices on pipelines or vents. The mesh dissipates heat rapidly, quenching a flame front before it can travel further.
Glass and Ceramics Manufacturing: Used as a support belt for firing ceramics or annealing glass, where the mesh must survive extreme kiln temperatures.
Automotive: In diesel particulate filters or exhaust systems where high heat is present.
3D Printing / Sintering: As a support plate or separator in powder bed fusion or sintering furnaces.
