2205 Duplex Stainless Steel Mesh
2205 Duplex (austenitic-ferritic) Stainless Steel Wire Mesh (UNS S32205 | S31803 EN | 1.4462 | F51) is with a balanced twophase microstructure of of approximately 50% austenite and 50% ferrite. his dual-phase structure gives it properties that are superior high strength, excellent chloride corrosion resistance, and good weldability to both common austenitic (304/316) and standard ferritic grades for industrial filtration and screening.
Typical Chemical Composition:
Grade | Chromium (Cr) | Nickel (Ni) | Molybdenum (Mo) | Nitrogen (N) | Carbon (C) | Iron (Fe) |
2205 Duplex | 21.0 – 23.0% | 4.5 – 6.5% | 2.5 – 3.5% | 0.08 – 0.20% | ≤ 0.03% | Balance |
Types of 2205 duplex stainless steel mesh:
Mesh Type | Weave Pattern | Mesh Size | Sizes | Common Use |
Plain / Twill Weave | 1:1 or 2:1 | 1-250 mesh | Roll / Sheet | General filtration and sieving in corrosive environments. |
Dutch Weave | Warp wires wider than shute wires | 12x64 to 325x2300 Mesh | Roll / Sheet | Fine filtration of liquids and gases where high strength is required to prevent mesh shifting under pressure. |
Welded Mesh | Resistance Welded | custom | Roll / Sheet | Fabricated into strainer baskets, protective cages, and support grids for heavy-duty applications. |
Crimped Mesh | Big Hole with Thick Wire | custom | Roll / Sheet | Strong Support |
Note: can accept customized sizes, such as filter discs, pleated cartridges, filter bags, filter tubes .
Key Properties
· Magnetic: Slightly magnetic (due to ferrite phase)
· Strength: Yield strength ≈ 2× that of 316L
· PREN ≥ 35: Excellent pitting & crevice corrosion resistance
· Outstanding resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC)
· Service temperature: -50°C ~ 300°C
· Avoid long‑term exposure at 300–950°C (risk of embrittlement)
Common Applications
2205 duplex stainless steel mesh is used where 316L fails due to chloride pitting or mechanical fatigue, but where the extreme (and expensive) resistance of 2507 or 904L is not yet necessary.
· Offshore & Marine: Seawater filtration, ballast water treatment systems, desalination plant pre-filtration.
· Oil & Gas: Sand screens, production manifolds, and separators in environments containing H2S and chlorides.
· Chemical Processing: Filter elements for heat exchangers, scrubbers, and piping systems handling chlorides or dilute acids.
· Pulp & Paper: Digester filtration and brownstock washing screens.
· Desalination: RO pre-filtration screens and media support grids.
