430 Magnetic Stainless Steel Mesh
430 Stainless Steel wire mesh (UNS S43000, AISI 430, UNS S43000, 1.4016, 1Cr17) is a ferritic & magnetic stainless steel weave mesh screen. Unlike the austenitic grades we've discussed previously (904L, 310S, 309), 430 is magnetic in all conditions.
Typical Chemical Composition:
Grade | Chromium (Cr) | Carbon (C) | Manganese (Mn) | Silicon (Si) | Iron (Fe) |
430 | 16.0 – 18.0% | ≤ 0.12% | ≤ 1.0% | ≤ 1.0% | Balance |
(Note: Contains negligible Nickel, which is the primary driver of cost and magnetism in stainless steels.)
Common Mesh Forms; 430 Stainless steel Woven Wire Mesh
· Weave types: Plain weave, Twill weave,Crimped
· Mesh count: 2 mesh ~ 200 mesh
· Wire diameter: 0.05 mm – 3.0 mm
· Shape: Roll, sheet, disc, filter element
Properties of 430 Filter Mesh
· Magnetic: Strong magnetic permeability, can be attracted by magnets.
· Corrosion resistance: Good in atmosphere, fresh water, steam, mild alkaline & acidic environments; lower than 304/316L.
· Heat resistance: Good oxidation resistance at medium temperature.
· Cost-effective: Lower price than austenitic 304/316L stainless steel.
· Weldability: Generally not recommended for heavy welding; easy to crack.
Common Applications
· Magnetic Separation: Used as a protective screen or filter media in conjunction with magnetic rods or separators to remove ferrous contaminants from powders and liquids (e.g., in food processing, plastics, recycling).
· Speakers and Grilles:Mesh for speaker covers or protective grilles where the mesh needs to be magnetically permeable.
· Automotive Trim:Decorative mesh applications where magnetism aids in installation or retention.
· Kitchenware: Filters for commercial dishwashers, strainers, and baskets where mild corrosion resistance and low cost are required.
· Battery Applications: Current collectors or separators in certain types of batteries.
