904L Stainless Steel Filter Mesh
904L stainless steel mesh (Chinese grade: 015Cr21Ni26Mo5Cu2, UNS N08904, or URS B25) is a super-alloy austenitic stainless steel woven wire mesh screen with low carbon, high nickel, high molybdenum, and copper content, featuring ultra-high corrosion resistance far beyond 316L/304, tailored for aggressive industrial environments.
Typical Chemical Composition
Grade | Chromium (Cr) | Nickel (Ni) | Molybdenum (Mo) | Copper (Cu) | Iron (Fe) |
904L | 19.0 – 23.0% | 23.0 – 28.0% | 4.0 – 5.0% | 1.0 – 2.0% | Balance |

Main Performance & Advantages
u Corrosion Resistance: PREN ≈ 36–38; Outstanding in sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, seawater, chloride-rich media. Outperforms 316L in pitting, crevice, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance. Resists intergranular corrosion even after welding (low carbon+stabilized alloy).
u Mechanical Properties (annealed): Tensile strength 490–790 MPa; Elongation ≥ 35%; Non-magnetic at all temperatures; Cannot be hardened by heat treatment (risk of embrittlement at high temps).
u Temperature Range: -196°C (cryogenic) ~ 400°C (continuous service); Avoid long-term exposure above 600°C.
u Processability: Good weldability (use ER385/ E385 electrodes); Machinable, formable, deep-drawable.
Common Applications
Due to its high cost (relative to 304/316), 904L is used specifically where standard stainless steel would fail prematurely.
u Chemical Processing:Filtration of sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and aggressive solvents.
u Oil & Gas:Sour gas filtration (environments containing H2S).
u Pharmaceuticals:High-purity processes where contamination from corrosion is unacceptable.
u Marine Applications:Ballast water filtration, seawater desalination (RO pre-filtration).
u Pollution Control:Filtration of flue gas desulfurization (FGD) slurries in power plants.
